The thinking behind OneSpot

Communication isn’t done when you hit send.

OneSpot is built on a simple, well-worn view of leadership communication: what matters isn’t whether a message went out, but whether it was received, understood, and acted on. Here are the ideas that shape the product.

Four principles

Ideas we didn’t invent. Just took seriously.

Principle 1

Communication is mostly listening

The research on effective leaders is blunt about the ratio: do about 80% of the listening and 20% of the talking. Sending is the easy part. Knowing what was received is the work.

In OneSpot

Access Insight is how a leader listens at scale — read receipts, what's landing, what's being missed — so “did this reach people?” has an answer instead of a guess.

Principle 2

Culture is the sum of its conversations

How people talk to each other is the truest indicator of a culture. The quality of everyday conversations quietly constrains or amplifies everything an organization is trying to do.

In OneSpot

Discuss gives those conversations a durable, searchable home, so the thinking behind a decision is still there when someone needs it — long after a chat feed would have scrolled it away.

Principle 3

Change needs the what and the why

Leaders who land change communicate both the decision and the reasoning behind it, bring people in early, and stay consistent. People commit to change they understand.

In OneSpot

Decide records the context, the decision, and the vote together — and Broadcast carries the why to everyone it affects, with proof of who has seen it.

Principle 4

A message isn't done without next steps

The most effective conversations end the same way: with clear next steps and someone accountable. Without that, good discussion evaporates and nothing actually moves.

In OneSpot

Every decision in OneSpot carries action items with owners and dates, rolled up into one place — so “we agreed to do this” turns into “this got done.”

These principles draw on published leadership-communication research, including work from the Center for Creative Leadership on core leadership skills, leading change, and the link between everyday conversations and organizational culture.

From idea to interface

The whole product is one bet: access is only half the job.

Make important information easy to reach and understand — then show whether it actually landed. That’s supported access and access insight, working together.
